Maintaining PeopleCert certifications
How to maintain your certificate
According to PeopleCert Continuing Development Programme, all PeopleCert certifications (previously provided by Axelos) will be issued with a three-years validity.
This means that candidates who have obtained a global best practice certification will have to renew it through a recertification procedure.
Why should PeopleCert certifications be renewed?
PeopleCert has developed its Continuing Professional Development programme.
Through this programme, candidates will stay up to date on the job market and they develop the skills necessary to succeed in their profession and career.

When a certification must be renewed?
As explained above, candidates will have to renew their certificate within three years from the award date.
How to know the expiry date of your certificate? You’ll just have to log to your PeopleCert account to check the renew-by date and the certification status.
N.B.: The measure has been introduced on 1st January 2023, but it is applied also to certificates obtained before this date.
How can I renew my PeopleCert certification?
PeopleCert makes available several ways to maintain a certification.
Each candidate can choose the options that best suits his/her needs.
Option 1: Retake the same certification exam
Candidates can take and pass the same exam for the certificate he/she needs to renew before the expiration date.
Option 2: Take further courses and certifications
Candidates an decide to attend another course and pass the related exam, but this has to be included in the same product suite.
What is a product suite? It is the same family of certifications.
For example: PRINCE2® Foundation belongs to the Project, Programme & Portfolio Management Product Suite.
Option 3: Collect and log CPD Points
Candidates can obtain and log CPD points through the CPD program, for single or multiple certifications.
For every Product Suite, candidates are required to submit a minimum of 20 CPD points annually, across various CPD categories, for three consecutive years. Following this period, the certification renewal date will be extended by another three years, and the cycle will continue.
The CPD points must be submitted by the date when the candidate initially passed their most recent exam within the Product Suite.
For example, if an exam was passed on June 1, 2020, the CPD points must be submitted by June 1 of each year.

Which exam can I take to renew my certificate?
One of the ways to renew your certificate is take another course or exam. By the way, you cannot take any exam, but only one included in the same product suite/family of the certification you need to renew. Which are the PeopleCert Products Suites, and which exams include?
Project, Programme & Portfolio Management
Product Suite
PRINCE2®, PRINCE2 Agile®, Management of Risk (M_o_R), MSP®, MoV®, MoP® and P3O®.
AgileSHIFT®
Product Suite
All AgileSHIFT certifications
RESILIA®
Product Suite
All RESILIA certifications
What happens if I don't renew my certificate?
If you decide not to renew your certificate within the three years period, you will still be listed in the Successful Candidates Register (SCR) and your certificate will be still valid. By the way, PeopleCert will apply a note to your record indicating that your certification is not aligned with the current certification requirements.
A certificate that passed its renew-by date will be also still accepted as prerequisite for another exam (e.g. PRINCE2 Agile Foundation expired certification for a PRINCE2 Agile Practitioner exam). The certificate will be automatically updated by passing the other exam.
What if I have to renew more than one certificate?
If you have multiple certificates from the same product suite, they all have the same renewal date, which is 3 years from the last exam you took and passed. This means that, if you have to renew more than a certificate, you can take just an exam within the product suite!
For example: if you achieved an ITIL 4 Foundation certificate on January 2022 and an ITIL 4 Specialist: Create, Deliver and Support on January 2023, both of your ITIL 4 certificates should be renewed within January 2026.
